The Real Path to Building an Audience

When You're Under Fifty Followers: The Real Path to Building an Audience

You're at thirty-three followers. Maybe you're at twenty. Maybe you hit fifty last week and thought that was progress. But here's what nobody tells you: the advice that works for people with thousands of followers doesn't work for you yet.

I know because I'm sitting there too.

I've been posting for months. Some posts landed. Most disappeared. I waited for the algorithm to do something magical. It didn't. Then I realized I was waiting for the wrong thing entirely.

The lie we believe is this: build your audience first, then monetize. Get big, then sell. It sounds logical. It also sounds impossible when you're looking at your follower count and it hasn't moved in a week.

So here's what actually shifted for me. I joined AI Revolution Secrets, and they asked their community to engage with their content. Comment. Share. Show up. So I did. And then they showed up for me. Not because they had to. Because we made a deal: you engage with my work, I engage with yours.

That first real boost didn't come from a clever caption. It came from reciprocity. From showing up first.

Now I'm doing this intentionally across every platform. Instagram, Facebook, X, Substack—I'm creating content that says exactly what I'm doing: "You follow me, I'll follow you. You comment on mine, I'll comment on yours. Let's help each other grow."

It sounds small. It is small. But when you've got thirty-three followers, small is everything.

Here's why this works: you don't need viral. You need real. Each follower matters. A comment isn't just a number—it's another human saying your work is worth their time.

Find people doing what you do. Engage with their content genuinely. Ask real questions. Leave thoughtful comments. Share their work. Then ask for the same back. It's not manipulation. It's just showing up and saying, "Hey, I see you. I'm doing this too. Can we help each other?"

That's how you move from thirty-three to fifty. Not fast. But real.

Scripture says it plainly: "As you wish that others would do to you, do so to them" (Luke 6:31). That's audience building right there. Show up for people first. Treat each connection like it matters—because it does.

I'm still learning this. Still figuring out what lands. Still posting into what feels like silence sometimes. But I know this: the followers I have came from showing up, not from waiting.

So if you're under fifty followers right now, don't quit. Find your people. Engage genuinely. Ask for reciprocity. Build slow and real.
